1917: The Alien Invasion is a 2016 indie vertical scrolling shoot 'em up video game developed by the German studio Andrade Games. It is set during an alternate history World War I involving an extraterrestrial invasion.
Gameplay
The game features eight stages[1] progressing from the battlefields of Verdun on Earth to an ancient alien world. Core mechanics focus on pattern memorization to navigate dense bullet patterns while collecting shields and power-ups. Stages conclude with large-scale boss encounters.[2][3]
Plot
Set in 1917 amid World War I, aliens invade Earth on April 15. Dr. Brunhild Stahlmüller, a weapons scientist aided by Harmuth Griesgram, develops the Red Beezlebub using reverse-engineered alien technology. She launches a counteroffensive from Verdun into space, pursuing vengeance against the alien forces, including their leader known as the "Chessmaster."
Development and release
Developed by Andrade Games, the game released June 10, 2016 on Windows as 1917: The Alien Invasion[4] and was expanded into the DX version with additional content via a free update on December 16, 2016.[5] A Nintendo Switch port of the DX version followed in June 2018, published by KORION.
DX Remastered
A remastered edition for PlayStation 5, published by Red Art Games, was released on February 28, 2025, in both digital[6] and physical[7] formats.
