The 1953 Winter Deaflympics (Template:Langx) officially known as the II International Winter Games for the Deaf (Template:Langx) is an international multi-sport event that was held from 20 February 1953 to 24 February 1953. This event was hosted by Oslo, Norway.[1]

The 2nd Winter Deaflympics Games were originally scheduled to be held from 15 to 22 March 1952, but was decided to postpone to 1953 due to the schedule of 1952 Winter Olympics.

History[edit]

The Games held coinciding the 1953 Summer Deaflympics. This was the last time that the Winter and Summer Games coincided in the same year.

Only 6 Nations participated at the inaugural Winter Deaflympics including the host nation Norway. The other nations were Austria, Finland, Germany, Sweden and Yugoslavia. Alpine Skiing, Cross-Country Skiing and Ski jumping were the only sports being introduced at the competition.

This was the first time that women were allowed to participate at the inaugural Winter Deaflympics.
