The 1968 U.S. Nationals was a National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) professional drag racing event held September 2, 1968 at Indianapolis Raceway Park in Clermont, Indiana.
Top Fuel Dragster[edit]
The Top Fuel Dragster field included Tom "Mongoo$e" McEwen (who qualified #1[1]), Don "Big Daddy" Garlits (driving Swamp Rat XII-B), Steve Carbone, "TV Tommy" Ivo, and Connie Kalitta.[2]

In the final, Carbone and Garlits were matched. Garlits took the win.[3]

In the AA/GS final, "Ohio George" Montgomery's new Ford 427 cu in (7,000 cc) SOHC-powered Mustang defeated match racer K. S. Pitman.[4]
The Stickle and Riffle Anglia, based out of the Rod Shop and driven by Bob Riffle, took the C/G win.[5]
Montgomery set a track record for low e.t. and top speed, at 8.54 seconds and 171 mph (275 km/h), as well as earning the award for "Best Engineered Car".[6]
