Elected Minister-President

Franz Strauss
Christian Social Union of Bavaria

In 1982, for the first and so far only time in Bavaria, a two-party parliament with CSU and SPD was created. The CSU missed a two-thirds majority by three seats. The FDP had been represented in the Landtag since 1946 (except 1966) and this time missed re-entry, after the end of Helmut Schmidt's Social-Liberal coalition at the federal level three weeks earlier.

This state election was the first Bavarian state election to take place with The Greens and the ÖDP. Both did not make it into the Landtag. The ÖDP did not achieve this later, in contrast to the Greens, who established themselves in the Landtag from the next election.
