1994 Clothing
1994 Clothing is a clothing brand from the United Kingdom.
Founding
The clothing brand was founded in 2019 by Henry McCosker and Jake Jackson. After several months, McCosker purchased all the shares of the sustainable clothing company and took full control as CEO and head of design and T-Shirt printing. Since then, the co-founder and CEO has single-handedly released three drops.
1994 Meaning
The meaning of the name 1994 Clothing is based on a group of men who kayaked around the Irish coast in the year 1994. The brand aims to remind people of a time before comparison. This message was based upon the two men who circumnavigated 1200 miles of Irish coast in 67 days, through 40-foot waves, dangerous tides and jellyfish stings with minimal equipment and no coastguard contact.[1] The logo of the brand depicts a kayak and the year 1994.[2]
Drops
1994 Clothing released its first drop in 2019. The 'Original Tee' was screen-printed by McCosker himself in his workshop in Yetminster. The design of the t-shirt stemmed from a small drawing. That small drawing then grew more and more, with developments to the contours until the back of the t-shirt was filled. The designs on the t-shirt are based around the positivity of this generation.[2]
The second drop re-released the 'Original Tee,' due to popular demand, as well as the long-sleeved 'Spinning Heads Tee' and the 'TBC,' on the 26th of May 2020. Again screen-printed in McCosker's workshop, the 'TBC' t-shirts provided alternate colours to the traditional black and white.
The third drop released the 'LE1' and 'LE2' in late 2020. The fourth drop is expected at the end of 2021 and will be a charity drop in order to support the homeless in Exeter, and raise awareness for the homeless cause.
Sustainability
All of the clothing brand prides itself on its sustainability. All of the t-shirts thus far have been made from 100% organic cotton and water-based ink in order to promote sustainability in the fashion industry.
1994 has proclaimed aims to move to 100% linen or hemp t-shirts in order to become more sustainable.
