History[edit]

1 Crown Office Row was founded in 1935 by Hildreth Glyn-Jones KC and Stanley Rees KC, both of whom became High Court Judges later in their careers[2][2]. Currently, there are 27 Queen's Counsel and 49 junior barristers[3], many of whom are on the Attorney General's panel of counsel[4][5][6]. It is located on Crown Office Row on Temple Gardens in Temple, London.

Many members have been involved in high profile cases including the Undercover Policing Inquiry, the Infected Blood Inquiry, Shamima Begum’s widely reported Supreme Court battle and the Fishmongers’ Hall Terror Attack Inquests. Martin Forde QC was Independent Advisor to the Windrush Compensation Scheme. Angus McCullough QC was amicus curiae in the Rebekah Brooks phone hacking trial and also acted for the Campaign Against the Arms Trade (CAAT) who brought proceedings to block the UK from selling arms to Saudi Arabia. Members of chambers also acted in the landmark ruling on whether children can consent to puberty blocker treatment for gender dysphoria.[3]

The barristers of 1 Crown Office Row publish the award-winning UK Human Rights Blog and Quarterly Medical Law Review. They also host Law Pod UK.[1]
