2002 Argentinian riots
The 2002 Argentinian protests was riots and popular disturbances against the banking crisis as part of the 1998-2002 Argentine great depression and demanded better handling over the economy. Economic protests led to Looting throughout Argentina in January 2002, when banks were ransacked and buildings were looted.[1]
Background
The 1998-2002 Argentine great depression sparked political unrest, economic turmoil and nationwide tensions fuelled by a severe crisis and devastation of the economy, economic chaos. Chaotic rioting and demonstrations took place in 2001, leading to the December 2001 riots in Argentina, when rioters were shot at and the government resigned. Widespread social unrest continued throughout the country and led to the deaths of many civilians. Protests first erupted after the government freeze of deposits in banks.[2]
Protests
A mass uprising escalated into Riots and popular civil disorder that consisted of Looting and Blockades in Buenos Aires, where banks were set on fire and ATM stalls were looted. Rioters were protesting throughout the city in 11–16 January, when the first wave of demonstrations erupted. Nationwide strikes took place in June 2002, when 2 rioters were killed after violence occurred in Buenos Aires demanding an end to the economic crisis and turmoil. Protesters rallied on 27–28 June 2002, when a wave of demonstrations swept the city.[3]
