2002 Gjilan earthquake
The 2002 Gjilan earthquake occurred in southern Kosovo near the city of Gjilan. The earthquake happened on April 24, 2002 at 12:55 local time. The shock had a Mww magnitude of 5.7 and a maximum Mercalli intensity of VII (Very Strong). It occurred at a 10 kilometer depth, causing very strong shaking across much of Gjilan, moderate shaking in some parts of Ferizaj, and light tremors across Kosovo, and some tremors across neighboring parts of the North Macedonia and Serbia. According to reliable news sources on 24 April, the earthquake killed 1 and injured 100. At least N/A buildings sustained damage in the region.
