The Flathead Valley avalanches were two avalanches that buried 11 snowmobilers near the town of Fernie, British Columbia, Canada on December 28, 2008. The avalanches ultimately claimed the lives of 8 of the riders, and prompted the need for more awareness on avalanche safety.[1]
