2011 Angolan protests

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

The 2011 Angolan protests, also known as the Angolan Spring, were rioting and violent protests against president Jose Eduardo dos Santos and his government. Protests are banned in Angola unless protestors get permission from the authorities. Students, lawyers and youth have protested in the streets since March, when peaceful demonstrations by labour unions began. Luanda was the epicentre of protests but soon, as protests snowballed into a movement, Malanje became the epicentre of protests. Some analysts believe that these anti-government worker remonstrances were inspired by the Arab spring. Mass protests were mostly led by workers, protesting in manifestations against the government, unemployment and high prices. The movement escalated when military led strikes against president Jose Eduardo dos Santos.
