The ruling Indian National Congress was voted as the second party in the elections. Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) did immensely well by jumping from 0 to 12 seats. Although Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) could not get a clear majority, the Indian National Congress had fallen to 7 seats.

In the year 2015, the Jorhat municipality election saw the Bharatiya Janata party gain the majority and form the board under the chairperson Smt. Aruna Dutta for the first time. Out of 19 wards, BJP won 12 wards and formed the first BJP-led Jorhat municipality Board.
