2015 World Masters Orienteering Championships

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

World Masters Orienteering Championships (WMOC) are annual international orienteering competitions and the official world championship for orienteering runners above the age of 35.

The WMOC 2015 was arranged between July 26 and August 1 2015 in Sweden. The competition, which is approved by the International Orienteering Federation as a World Master Orienteering Championships, attracted nearly 4000 participants from 38 nations and took place in Gothenburg.[1][2][3]

Both the sprint qualification and final took place on Eriksberg, the Northern Bank of the river Göta älv. This part of the city was formerly a large industrial area that has now been transformed into a modern district of Gothenburg, with both residential and office premises incorporated into central Gothenburg. The area consists of a wide range of irregularly shaped buildings and park areas and is very suitable for sprint orienteering.[4]

The long distance qualification I and II took place on the eastern sections of the Getryggen and Björnåsbergen maps. The long distance final was held on the Skatås[5] and Getryggen maps, i.e. west of the qualification area.

Among the winners were a 97-years old orienteerer from Norrköping, Sweden.[6][7] After his victory in the class M95 he complained about missing competitors. By this victory he defended his championship from the 2014 World Masters Orienteering Championships in Brazil.
