On 27 December 2017, an explosion of an explosive device took place in the Perekrestok supermarket in Saint Petersburg, Russia.[2][3][4][5] Eighteen people in total were hurt and no one died. President of Russia Vladimir Putin said that the act was a "terrorist attack". Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attack, but provided no evidence.[6][7].
Three days later, on December 30, the authorities announced the capture of a suspect, although they did not provide an identity.[8][9][10][11]Later it was revealed that the suspect in a mentally disturbed man having a grievance against a cult-like group, the paid seminars of which he had attended.[12][13]
