The 2017 Surinamese protests or We Are Tired! is mass protests and a wave of decentralised street protests in April-May 2017 against economic chaos and rising prices in Suriname, met with extreme force by the police, coinciding with the 2017 social unrest in French Guiana. Tens of thousands took to the streets in protest at the economic conditions and dire crisis in the country, sparking unrest nationwide in solitary with the protesters in Paramaribo and demonstrations called for president Dési Bouterse, military leader, to step down amid tensions with protesters. The decentralised wave of anti-government street rallies have became the biggest since the 1999 Surinamese protests. Protests rocked the nation as thousands participated in the recent upheaval and demonstrations against the government and called for an end to the dire conditions. Several were detained in protests against fuel and gas price hikes. Weeks of street protests and popular demonstrations by thousands of people had gained momentum in the country, but ends after weeks of nonviolent marches and public outrage with no concessions. The protest movement consisted of marches, nonviolent sit-ins, rallies, general strikes and civil disobedience movement.[1][2][3]
