2019 Dominican protests

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

The 2019 Dominican protests were mass protests and rioting against the results of the 2019 Dominican general election and claimed that it was rigged in Dominica. The protest movement first began after Al Jazeera uncovered corruption scandals in the elections.[citation needed] The wave of protests that marred the country was the biggest the country had seen in years. Disruptive protests were forcibly dispersed, quelled and broken up by foreign and internal troops, who managed to quell the opposition violence and violent demonstrations.[citation needed] Clashes broke out when the airport was shut down in protest in Roseau against the results, and fighting broke out with the security forces when they threw stones and fired Tear gas at hundreds of protesters waving flags and placards. Violent protests rocked major towns, mainly consisting of violence.[citation needed] Rubber bullets were used against protesters as fighting for the elections continued. Barricades, roadblocks and fires were made as police used force to disperse protesters demanding the resignation of the prime minister Roosevelt Skerrit. The results of the movement and popular protests were suppressed and staged rallies against Roosevelt Skerrit were banned.[1][2][3][4]
