The Championship was scheduled to begin on the 9th May 2020; however, the competition was postponed indefinitely due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Ireland.
Meath were the 2019 Christy Ring champions, defeating Down by 4-19 to 2-15 in the final. Meath were promoted to the 2020 Joe McDonagh Cup.
Competition Format[edit]
In 2018 the Christy Ring Cup changed to an initial stage of two groups of four teams, having previously been held as a double elimination tournament. The 2020 competition retains this structure.[1]
The top two teams in the two groups advance to the semi-finals with the winners meeting in the final.
Relegation and promotion
The 2020 Christy Ring champions and runners-up will be automatically promoted to the 2021 Joe McDonagh Cup. This is a change to the 2019 format, where only the champions were promoted. (This is due to a restructure of the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship tiers)
The bottom teams meet in a relegation playoff with the losers relegated to the following year's Nicky Rackard Cup.
