The 2020 Isle of Man Tourist Trophy was an event scheduled to be held from Sunday 31 May to Friday 12 June 2020. [1][2]

However, as a consequence of the COVID-19 pandemic, an announcement was made by the Isle of Man Department for Enterprise on 16 March 2020, [3] stating that the event would be cancelled. [4][5]

Due to the cancellation of the 2020 Isle of Man TT races, a £1.5 million financial package was announced by the Isle of Man Treasury Department to support the tourism sector during the COVID-19 crisis. The Isle of Man TT races create an estimated £37 million annually for the Isle of Man economy, and the cancellation by the Isle of Man Government was a difficult decision. [6] The tourism industry in 2020 required further support after a State of Emergency was declared, the first time since the wartime emergency of 1939, and all non-Isle of Man residents were banned from travelling to the island. [7] Further cancellations of other motor-sport events in 2020 included the Manx Grand Prix, Southern 100 races and the Manx National Rally. [8]

A series of four virtual Isle of Man TT races were hosted during 6th and 12th June 2020. A number of race competitors, including Isle of Man TT lap record holder Peter Hickman, were paired with experienced e-gamers. [9] Highlights of the Virtual TT races were broadcast on the UK terrestrial TV channel ITV4 on Wednesday 17th June 2020. [10]

A charity cycle-ride around the Isle of Man TT Mountain Course was held on the date of the cancelled Senior TT Race day, which included a number of Isle of Man TT competitors and the former Olympic Games Gold medal winning cyclist Peter Kennaugh. [11] [12]
