2020 Tunisian protests
The 2020 Tunisian protests were violent demonstrations against the 2017 agreement on jobs and oil, and against unemployment rates. Sit-ins and riots erupted in Kasserine, Tataouine and southern Tunisia. The gas and oil, jobs, and employment agreement of 2017 prompted protests and then a violent crackdown against protesters, and the clashes that occurred after led to injuries and deaths. In July, an investigation into the demonstrations took place, even though demonstrations were still ongoing. Mass protests in August against oil prices and shortages led to the shutting down of oil factories and landmarks. In October, according to AfricaNews, protests against a security law and laws outside parliament by dozens of protesters in Tunis took place. Protests in November, reported by AlJazeera, halted a key phosphate mine. Tear gas, beatings, arrests and clashes against protesters targeting the difficult economic situation are being talked about currently.
