On 15 June 2020, a United States Air Force F-15C Eagle crashed into the North Sea, 74 nautical miles off the coast of East Yorkshire, England, while on a training exercise.[1][2] The pilot was later declared dead, and his body recovered.[1][2] A helicopter from HM Coastguard and RNLI lifeboats from Bridlington and Scarborough participated in search and rescue attempts.[2]
The single-seat aircraft belonged to the 48th Fighter Wing and was flying from RAF Lakenheath.[1][2]
