The 2020 monsoon rains of Pakistan is a weather hazard that claims the lives of several Pakistanis in August 2020. According to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) in Pakistan, the death toll from monsoon rains across the country from August 1 to August 30 has risen to 116. According to officials, a total of ten major and minor roads, nine bridges and two powerhouses were damaged, while 1,051 houses were completely destroyed and 543 houses were partially damaged.

Losses at the provincial level[edit]

Bloachistan[edit]

According to the National Disaster Management Authority, as of August 30, ten different highways in Balochistan have been damaged, three bridges, a private hotel and 887 houses have been completely destroyed while 98 houses have been partially damaged.

Authorities say 17 people have been killed in various rain-related accidents, including eight children.A total of 16 districts have been affected by the rains and floods. Two more people have been killed in recent rains, bringing the total to 19.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa[edit]

Two bridges, two mines and a mosque were damaged in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from August 1st to August 30th. The number of completely destroyed houses is 86 while the number of partially destroyed houses is 105 while 32 people have been killed including ten children.

According to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Disaster Management Authority, no casualties have been reported from the rains since August 29.

Punjab[edit]

In Punjab province, from August 1 to August 30, there were reports of two houses being completely damaged and five partially damaged. The rains have killed eight people, including four children.

Sindh[edit]

According to the National Disaster Management Authority, the damage caused by the recent rains in Karachi and Sindh is being assessed.

The death toll in Sindh is 61, including 14 children.

Kashmir[edit]

According to the National Disaster Management Authority, 35 houses in Pakistan-administered Kashmir have been completely damaged and 94 houses partially damaged.

Authorities say nine people have been killed, including seven children.

According to the National Disaster Management Authority of Kashmir, the flood situation in the Poonch River in [Kotli district]] of Kashmir during the last 24 hours has now receded. Meanwhile, flood relays have occurred in Kotli, Bhimber and Rawalkot, while landslides in Neelum Valley and Muzaffarabad have closed roads and work is underway to rehabilitate them.

Gilgit-Baltistan[edit]

According to the National Disaster Management Authority, four bridges and two powerhouses were damaged in Gilgit-Baltistan from August 1 to August 30. One person was reported killed there.

According to the National Disaster Management Authority, Gilgit-Baltistan, the Karakoram Highway was closed to all types of traffic in different parts of Gilgit-Baltistan due to landslides on Sunday, which was partially reopened to traffic on Monday. Officials hope full traffic will be restored by Monday night.

Officials say the damage from the landslide is being assessed.

The condition of rivers and streams[edit]

Currently, the country's southern rivers are flowing fast and there was a flood situation. There is still moderate flooding at the confluence of the Jhelum and Chenab rivers.
