On 22 May 2021 at 11:47 am local time Liu, 31, drove a black sedan through a red light at the intersection of Wuhui Road and Youhao Street, going 67 miles per hour, and rammed into pedestrians crossing the street, killing four and wounding five more. Another pedestrian died of their injuries at the hospital.[1] Liu was found to be completely clear of mind when he carried out his attack, having not been on any substances.[2] After the attack, Liu tried to escape using his car, but collided with a van at an intersection and had to continue his escape by foot, and was apprehended by police at 1pm local time. The reason Liu carried out his attack was due to a failed investment scheme; his goal was to take revenge against society.[3]
