2021 TH₁₆₅ is a Plutino on a retrograde, comet-like orbit from the outer Solar System. It was discovered on 11 October 2021, by the Pan-STARRS sky survey using the PS1 telescope at Haleakalā Observatory in Hawaii.[1]
Classification and orbit
2021 TH₁₆₅ is a trans-neptunian object and plutino with a retrograde orbit and a negative TJupiter at -4.323.[1]
TH₁₆₅ orbits the sun at distances between 21.5–57.7 AU once every 250 years and 8.5 months (91,571 days[2] with a SMA of 39.6 AU). It has an orbital eccentricity of 0.45 and an inclination of 155° to the ecliptic. Observations of the asteroid begun in 2015 at Mauna Kea 6 years before its discovery in 2021, and have spanned over 9.7 years (3,571 days).[1] Its orbit has an uncertainty of 2.[1]
Retrograde orbit
TH₁₆₅ orbits in a retrograde motion, with an inclination of 155°. Any object that has an inclination above 90° is classified as retrograde.
Physical characteristics
Due to limited observations, TH₁₆₅'s physical details are not well known. It has an absolute magnitude of around 8.52,[1] while its albedo is roughly estimated at around 0.130,[3] while its diameter, calculated from these numbers, is roughly estimated to be about 73 kilometres
