From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

The 2021 United Wiffleball National Championship is an upcoming tournament to determine the national champion in fastpitch wiffleball for 2021. The tournament is scheduled for October 22–24, 2021 at PeoplesBank Park in York, Pennsylvania.[1] It is the last leg of the National Wiffle Grand Slam Championships.[2]

Background[edit]

United Wiffle announced the format for the tournament on May 3, 2021. 44 teams will participate for the tournament. Four teams are automatically qualified for the tournament as semi-finalists from the 2020 tournament; The Usual Suspects (defending national champions), Black Dog Country Club (2020 runners-up), C4 and Whippets Wiffle Club (2020 semi-finalists).

Eight automatic berths will be available to the winners of eight selected Linked Tournaments:[3]

The other 32 teams will be open to all teams on a first-come, first-served basis.[4]

Format[edit]

The tournament is divided into several stages:[5]

  • Route 1: Entry for all 32 at-large teams, divided into four groups of eight teams. Teams will be matched up with a team with the same record as they advance through this stage. The only difference from 2020 is that 1-2 teams and 2-1 teams will play an opponent with the same record in a fourth game.
  • Route 2: The 12 teams with a 2–2 record from Route 1 will advance to Route 2 to play the 12 automatic qualifiers.
  • Bridge Round: The 6 runners up (3-1 teams) from Route 1 and the 6 runners up (2nd place pool finishers) from Route 2 pay to determine the final six teams of the championship bracket
  • Championship Bracket: 16-team knockout round.
