The 2022–23 Maltese Premier League will be the 108th season of top-flight league football in Malta. The season will begin in August 2022 and will end between April and May 2023.
Format[edit]
For this season the Malta Football Association decided to expand the league to 14 teams starting with this season.[1]
Teams[edit]
Fourteen teams will compete in the league – the top ten teams from the previous season and the four teams promoted from the Maltese Challenge League. The promoted teams are Pembroke (return to the top flight after five year's absence), Żebbuġ Rangers (return to the top flight after seven year's absence), Marsaxlokk (return to the top flight after ten year's absence) and Pietà Hotspurs (return to the top three after eleven year's absence). They replace Sliema Wanderers after 37 years in the top flight. One of the most successful teams in local football were last relegated in season 1982-83
