The 44th Ryder Cup Matches will be held in September/October 2022 at a yet to be determined place.
Format
The Ryder Cup is a match play event, with each match worth one point. The competition format will be as follows:
- Day 1 (Friday) – 4 foursome (alternate shot) matches and 4 fourball (better ball) matches
- Day 2 (Saturday) – 4 foursome matches and 4 fourball matches
- Day 3 (Sunday) – 12 singles matches
On the first two days there are 4 foursome matches and 4 fourball matches with the home captain choosing which are played in the morning and which in the afternoon.
With a total of 28 points available, 14½ points are required to win the Cup, and 14 points are required for the defending champion to retain the Cup. All matches are played to a maximum of 18 holes.
Bidding for the 2022 Ryder Cup
The bidding process for the 2022 Ryder Cup opened on 23 June 2014. Interested countries had until 31 August to formally express an interest in bidding. These expressions had to come either from a central government or a national golf governing body.[1] On 5 September, seven nations had expressed an interest in hosting. Formal bids were to be submitted by 16 February 2015, with the host to be selected that autumn.[2] In November 2014 it was announced that Denmark had withdrawn from the bidding process leaving six remaining countries. The date for submissions of the formal bids was extended to 30 April 2015.[3]
7 nations originally expressed interest in bidding.[2] However Ryder Cup Europe only received 4 bids when bidding closed on 30 April 2015.[4]
On 4 September 2015 the bidders will have to agree with the contractual conditions of Ryder Cup Europe.[5] The decision of which country will become the venue of the 2022 Ryder Cup will be made in late September or early October 2015.[6][7]
