Results[edit]

As was now standard for the 2024 Olympic cycle, the men led off, with the first men emerging from the lake in a bunch. as a result, the bike leg was largely uneventful, with Hayden Wilde of New Zealand the only cyclist to attempt to push the peloton. Transition two left recently crowned World Triathlon Sprint Champion Alex Yee some way back as Wilde continued to pile on the pressure, but the Briton utilised his running strength to catch the Kiwi as they handed over basically neck and neck, with Frenchman Pierre Le Corre a few seconds behind. The second leg swim created a small group of four led by Emma Lombardi of France, but despite the protestations of Sophie Coldwell the group failed to work together, and as they approached the run leg, the race had once more become compact. On the run, Lombardi built up a healthy advantage, with Taylor Spivey taking the American team into a strong position for the third leg; but it was in the water in the third leg that Vincent Luis sealed the race with a remarkable swim putting him well out of reach of the United States and New Zealand, with a further group of four further behind. Cassandre Beaugrand, the Sprint Championship silver medalist, hit the water in the final leg alone and unchallenged. Behind her, however, World Triathlon women's Sprint Champion Georgia Taylor-Brown had begun an audacious comeback, pegging back alone a group containing Summer Rappaport of the United States on the bike ride, and immediately putting pressure on that group as the run began, knowing she was carrying a ten second penalty box requirement for an infringement in the third leg by Sam Dickenson. As Beaugrand cruised ahead, Taylor-Brown set out to break here remaining running companions, as a silver medal behind France would also be enough to secure Olympic qualification. With 500 metres to go, Beaugrand could not be caught, although Taylor-Brown had significantly reduced her lead in trying to run the legs out of the America Rappaport. Coming into the penalty box, Taylor-Brown watched Beaugrand extending her lead back over 20 seconds and jogging across the line for a deserved win and world title, a record fourth in a row, for France. Taylor-Brown sprinted out ahead of the recovering Rappaport and Great Britain secured Olympic qualification as they finished the race 23 seconds down on the French woman, but seven ahead of the American Rappaport who held on for bronze.

The fastest legs in the event were, for the men, by Alex Yee and Hayden Wilde, 20 minutes 29 seconds, and for the women, Georgia Taylor-Brown, 22 minutes and 12 seconds. The results of the final were:
