Semi-finals

The final table will be confirmed after the final matchday on 7 May 2022, due to Plymouth Argyle beating Burton Albion 1-0 and Ipswich Town battering Exeter City 6-0 on April 29, this meant that Sheffield Wednesday were destined for the play-offs. Barnsley later qualified after beating Oxford United 2-0 on April 22. Bolton Wanderers secured their spot after bettering Fleetwood Town on April 29. That left 6th place to be decided on the final match day. If Derby County won against Sheffield Wednesday, then their place would be confirmed. If Derby County failed to win and Peterborough United won by 3 or more goals against Barnsley, then Peterborough United would qualify instead of Derby County. If Peterborough United won and Derby County lost then Peterborough United would qualify. But if Derby County win and Bolton Wanderers don’t, then Derby County could still finish 5th. This means that 6th place would play Sheffield Wednesday and 5th Place would play Barnsley in the first legs, and vice versa in the second legs.
