The 2023 Lakki Marwat Operation occurred on 21 October 2023, in the Lakki Marvat District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan.
The security forces conducted an intelligence operation in the Semu Wanda area on the intelligence-based-reports of occupancy of the area by the militants of Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan.[1][3][4]
Background[edit]
The operation was part of Pakistan's ongoing efforts to combat terrorism in the region, which had been plagued by frequent attacks, causing concerns for both the military and the government.[5]
The talks with the outlawed militant group Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) broke down in November of last year, the group has increased its attacks, primarily targeting KP police and districts bordering Afghanistan. Insurgents in Balochistan have also increased their violent actions and cemented a link with the TTP.[6]

The operation was executed based on critical intelligence reports, and was aimed at countering terrorist activities in the region.[3] During the operation, a heavy exchange of barrage took place between the militants and the troops belonging to the Pakistan Armed Forces, in which four militants were shot dead, whereas one got injured and was seized by the security forces.[1][3][4][2]
The ISPR while breifing the media said "A cache of arms, equipment, and explosives was also seized during the raid."[1]
The terrorists remained actively involved in numerous terrorist activities against security forces as well as target killing of innocent civilians.The terrorists continued to engage in various terrorist acts against security forces, as well as targeted killings of innocent civilians. The ringleader of the terrorists was actively involved in a number of terrorist actions in the area and was wanted by authorities.[7][6]
Locals in the neighborhood praised the operation and pledged their complete cooperation to eliminate the threat of terrorism.[6]
