2023 Sony ransomware hack
On September 25, 2023, Japanese conglomerate Sony was allegedly hacked and infected with ransomware. The group behind the attack, known as Ransomed.vc, stated that Sony had not shown any intent to pay the ransom.[1][2][3]

The first outlet to report the hack was Cyber Security Connect, which reported that most, if not all, of Sony’s systems had been hacked.[4][5]
The hacker group, known as Ransomed.vc, said in an announcement that it wanted compensation for helping companies "protect" against data intrusions, as well as from committing GDPR violations.[6] Sony later stated that they were investigating the incident.[7][8] Ransomed.vc offered a PowerPoint presentation as alleged proof of their possession of internal articles, though their claims were not verified, with Cyber Security Connect calling the evidence "uncompelling".[9][10]
On September 26, Ransomed.vc threatened to sell Sony’s data to a third party unless a ransom was paid.[11] The group has also claimed that it currently has 6,000 of Sony’s files.[12]
