The 2024 UK Independence Party leadership election will take place in May 2024, following the resignation of Neil Hamilton, as party leader. As of April 2024, there are three candidates in the running to become leader. (Bill Etheridge, Lois Perry, and Anne Marie Waters)[1]

Background[edit]

Neil Hamilton became the leader of UKIP in 2021, defeating John Poynton, 498 votes to 133.[2] Hamilton served as acting leader from September 2020, following the resignation of Freddy Vachha.[3]

During his time as leader, UKIP lost every council seat it held in the 2021 local elections. Hamilton lost his seat at the 2021 Senedd election.
