ChargesThree counts of first-degree murder

Between May 25 and May 26, three men were found dead in Puna, Hawaii. Three men were identified as Robert Shine, John Carse, and Chitta Morse, two of the men in their 60s and one in their 70s.

It was believed that 36-year-old Jacob Daniel Baker murdered all three men, leading to a multi-agency manhunt for Baker. On May 28 authorities arrested Baker on Kalapana-Kapoho Road, and he was taken to the Hawaii Police Department, and he now faces three counts of murder, among other offenses.

Prior to the murders

Days before all three men's bodies were discovered, two women filed restraining orders against Baker, with one of the women stating that Baker made threats against her life.[1]

The first restraining order was filed by the owner of Josanna’s Organic Garden, an organic farm.[1] In her filing she stated that Baker made death threats against a disabled man and three others. The owner also stated, "I don’t feel safe; he will enter our property and take items, threaten us, says he wants to squat there."[2] The second restraining order was filed by a friend of the owner, who stated she felt "unsafe."[1]

Aftermath

Between May 25 and May 26, three men were found dead in Puna, Hawaii, leading to a multi-agency manhunt for the killer.[3][4] Three men were identified as Robert Shine and John Carse, both 69-year-olds, and Chitta Morse, who was 79, who were all residents of Pāhoa, Hawaii.[5] Authorities described Baker as "extremely dangerous" as they were taking him into custody.[6][7][8]
