2100 (MMC)
will be an exceptional common year starting on Friday of the Gregorian calendar, the 2100th year of the Common Era (CE) and Anno Domini (AD) designations, the 100th year of the 3rd millennium, the 100th and last year of the 21st century, and the 1st year of the 2100s decade.
2100, as a centennial year, will not be considered a leap year because it is only divisible by 100, not by 400. The next Century leap year after 2000 will occur in 2400.
Popular culture often treats 2100 as the first year of the 22nd century due to a tendency to group years according to decimal values, as if year zero were counted. However, this is not the true beginning. According to the Gregorian calendar, the true start of the 22nd century will be 2101. There was no year zero in history; the 1st century of the Common Era began with AD 1.
GSM cellular phones and motherboards worldwide may have problems displaying dates correctly at the end of the 21st century, particularly after the clock rollover from December 31, 2099, to January 1, 2100. This is a consequence of the Year 2100 Problem.
Predicting Events
Calendar events
January
- January 1 - Many people will be confused again about the closing of the old 21st century and the opening of the new 22nd century.
March
- March 1 - (Julian calendar February 16), when the Julian calendar acknowledges a leap day and the Gregorian calendar does not, the Julian calendar will fall one day further behind, bringing the difference to 14 days. Since 14 is divisible by 7, the Gregorian and Julian calendars will have the same days of the week. This will continue until February 28 (Julian calendar February 14), 2200.
December
- December 31 - Will be the official last day of the 21st century.
