From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

The 61st Medical Company (MEDCOM) is organized under the Tennessee State Guard. The primary mission of the 61st MEDCOM is to provide health and medical care to augment the Tennessee National Guard or when the National Guard is deployed. The 61st MEDCOM provides an organized and trained health and medical care workforce in support of deployed assets of the Tennessee State Guard. The 61st MEDCOM is also capable of providing primary healthcare, specialized first aid, triage, resuscitation, and stabilization. Working as part of a State Defense Force, the unit functions as a Brigade Support Medical Company in current medical doctrine and supports both military and civilian population medical needs at the Role 1, unit medical care level.[1] Col Alan Cox MD is the Commander of the 61st MEDCOM.

In June 2019, the 61st Medical Company (MEDCOM) participated in Shaken Fury and Ardent Sentry, an eight state cooperative exercise responding to a large earthquake along the Mississippi River.[2] As part of the exercise, the 61st MEDCOM trained to triage, treat and transport disaster victims in coordination with other participating entities.[3] [4]

In April 2020, members of the Tennessee State Guard were activated to State Active Duty in response to the 2020 coronavirus pandemic. Members of the 61st Medical Company (MEDCOM) and Regimental medical personnel were tasked with providing medical support to Tennessee's COVID-19 Medical Joint Task Force.[5]
