Despite only lasting a little under two minutes, the song has become well-known for its composition, which is equal parts soothing and unsettling. Many listeners have said that the song gives them a sense of nostalgia and "anemoia," which is nostalgia for memories that one never knew they had or that don't exist, somewhat like déjà vu.

Despite the song's designation as an instrumental, there are unmistakably distorted vocals. "Ask him" and "gasp" are a few of interpretations, but since no formal confirmation has been made, anything goes.

Culture[edit]

The song has become more well-known in subcultures that focus on nostalgia and dream-related aesthetics, most especially nostalgiacore. Nostalgiacore is a surrealist aesthetic that employs minimal, saturated, and occasionally unsettling images of "nostalgic" locations or memories, like playgrounds and daycare centers, that are frequently portrayed as deserted and abandoned in order to evoke calming nostalgia and/or unsettling déjà vu. Whatever the case, these photographs all have one thing in common: to many people, they serve as a reminder of how much more vivid and lively childhood was in comparison to the sometimes bleak images that now serve to depict those times.

These images are often made into compilations on YouTube, with “Six Forty Seven” commonly being used as the background music.[1]
