History

Founding

6 News was founded in March 2019 by Leonardo Puglisi as HMV Local News, covering news from across Hawthorn, Victoria and surrounding suburbs.[1] Initially, a single news bulletin was published on weekends, presented by Puglisi from his house, summarizing the main stories of the week.

Rebranding and Media Appearances

On January 1, 2020, HMV Local News was rebranded to 6 News, featuring a new green screen studio and daily bulletins. Puglisi's first media appearance was on The Ben, Rob & Robbo Show in May 2020.[2] Later that month, Natasha Exelby interviewed Puglisi for 10 News First.[3]

Bell Tower Removal Story

On June 17, 2020, Puglisi reported on the removal of a historic bell tower at Hawthorn West Primary School due to collapse risks. His on-scene report gained attention from 3AW Radio and The Age.[4] Sunrise also featured a report on him.[5]

Exclusive Stories

6 News has broken several notable stories, including ABC News Breakfast host Lisa Millar deactivating her Twitter account and Sky News Australia receiving a strike on YouTube.[6]
