Production[edit]
Casting[edit]
The film was announced in September 2017, with Aravind Iyer as the lead actor.[8] Iyer dropped out in February 2018 due to conflicting schedules and was replaced by Rakshit Shetty.[9] Sangeetha Sringeri was selected as the female lead from an audition with over 2,700 entries.[10]
Dog trainer BC Pramod trained three Labrador Retrievers to play the role of Charlie in the film.[11]
Filming[edit]
Production began in June 2018 in Mangalore,[12] after which a large portion of filming was done in Mysore, Bangalore and Dandeli forest.[13] Rakshit Shetty rejoined the production team in January 2020 after the release of Avane Srimannarayana.[14] Parts of the film were shot in Goa, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Punjab and Kashmir. 777 Charlie completed 100 days of filming in March 2020,[15] before the COVID-19 pandemic brought the production to a halt.[16] Filming resumed in October 2020 after a six-month break with sequences being shot in Bangalore and Kodaikanal.[17][18] In June 2021, director Kiranraj stated that the team had filmed for a total of 160 days, with visuals for end credits pending to be shot.[19][20]
Release[edit]
When asked about the film's release date in an interview in June 2021, director Kiranraj said, "We have our hopes pinned on the vaccination drive and the audience being receptive to watching films in the theatres and have a year-end release in mind."[20] On 3 June 2021, Prithviraj Sukumaran announced that he would be presenting the Malayalam version of the film.[21] On 4 June 2021 ace-director Karthik Subbaraj announced that he would be presenting the Tamil version of the film as Stonebench Films.
