818 is named after Jenner's area code 818, which includes her hometown of Calabasas, California.[3]

The company currently only sells tequila.[4] These include the three main types of tequila: Blanco, Reposado, and Añejo (including their "Eight Reserve" tequila).[5] The three standard tequilas are sold at differing prices, all increasing based on how long they have been aged. Controversy
818 faced online backlash immediately after its launch over allegations of cultural appropriation.[6] Most criticism arose from the brand using Mexican culture in their branding, despite being founded by an American supermodel.[7] Jenner responded to the backlash by highlighting 818's contributions to the community in which the tequila is produced.[8] Another criticism arose from the inauthenticity of the brand's original producer, where 63 other brands of tequila were also being made at the same facility.[9] However, the brand ultimately switched producers.[2]
