8 Ball Pool is a 2010 online billiard-themed pool simulation sports game maintained and operated by Miniclip[1] for Android[2], iOS[3], and Web browser. The player engages in competitive multiplayer matches in order to acquire pool coins which are spent on cue sticks and other pool gear.[4]

History[edit]

Quick Fire Pool was released in 2008 before later being changed to the current name "8 Ball Pool". The game received one million active players and one one of the most played games on Miniclip.[5]

In October 2010, 8 Ball Pool was officially released on mobile phones and web browsers. Miniclip created the mobile version of the game. Soon after making it, they published it to App Stores worldwide.

Gameplay[edit]

8 Ball Pool is a pool game that takes place in billiard-themed game rooms where the player engages in online competitive multiplayer matches in order to acquire pool coins which are spent on cue sticks and other pool gear. Each game room offers different rules, prizes and entry fees. The players can collect experience points which are used to level up and unlock incipient game rooms and items. 8 Ball Pool is a popular online multiplayer game played on mobile devices and computers. The game is a simulation of traditional billiards, played on a pool table with six pockets and 16 balls - one cue ball and 15 object balls, seven of which are striped and numbered from 9 to 15, and the other eight are solid and numbered from 1 to 8.

The objective of the game is to use the cue ball to pocket all the object balls, either solid or striped, and finally pocket the 8 ball to win the game. Players take turns to hit the cue ball with their cue stick, aiming to hit an object ball and pocket it in a pocket.

The game has different modes of play, including 1-vs-1 matches, tournaments, and mini-games. Players can also earn coins, which they can use to buy new cues, upgrade existing cues, and enter high-stakes games.
