8am (company)
8am, formerly known as AffiniPay, is a privately held technology company based in Austin, Texas. It develops software for legal, accounting, and other professional services firms, offering tools for practice management and electronic payment processing.[1] [2]
History
Amy Porter founded the company in November 2005 in Austin, Texas, as a provider of electronic payment processing services for professional service firms.[3]
In 2007, the company launched LawPay, an Interest on Lawyers’ Trust Accounts (IOLTA)-compliant payment software for legal professionals. In 2016, it expanded to accounting professionals with CPACharge, providing similar payment processing services for accountants, certified public accountants, and bookkeepers.[4]
In February 2021, AffiniPay announced it had acquired ClientPay, integrating its features into LawPay to support credit card, e-check, and digital wallet transactions.[5] After the acquisition, ClientPay was relaunched as a payment processing software for project-based professionals including architects, engineers, consultants, creative professionals, and government contractors.[6]
AffiniPay acquired MyCase in 2022, adding the legal practice management software to its portfolio. The acquisition included related offerings CasePeer, DocketWise, Woodpecker, and Soluno.[7] [8] In September 2023, Soluno was sold to Actionstep.[9] Woodpecker’s legal document automation tools were later integrated into MyCase.[10]
On August 19, 2025, AffiniPay announced the launch of 8am, consolidating its products under a single corporate identity (e.g., 8am LawPay, 8am MyCase, 8am CasePeer, 8am DocketWise, 8am CPACharge, 8am ClientPay, and 8am AffiniPay).[11]
The company held its first inaugural Kaleidoscope conference in September 2025, where it announced updates to the platform’s reporting, AI-supported tools, search, and integrations.[12]
