A-G requirements

The A–G requirements are the subjects that must be completed in high school in order to be admitted to campuses of the University of California and California State University.[1]
These requirements are:
- A: Social Studies – 2 years. One year of world history and one year of American history. A semester of American government may be substituted for one of the American history semesters.
- B: English – 4 years
- C: Mathematics – 3 years of college prep mathematics at algebra or above
- D: Lab science – 1 year of biology and 1 year of either chemistry or physics
- E: Language other than English – 2 years of the same language
- F: Visual and performing arts – 1 year of art, dance, drama or music
- G: College prep elective – 1 additional year of any of requirements A–F or certain other approved electives
