A.M. Williams Generating Station is a 659 MW,[1] single unit coal-fired power station located in Berkeley, South Carolina. It is owned and operated by the South Carolina Generating Company (GENCO), a subsidiary of Dominion Energy South Carolina (DESC). Under a Unit Power Sales Agreement, DESC purchases all of the power generated by Williams Station.[2] The nameplate capacity of the station's sole unit is 659.7 MW.[1] Williams is currently planned to be retired in 2028,[3] but a coal retirement analysis prepared for Dominion in 2022 indicated that retirement was feasible no earlier than 2030.[4] This claim is disputed by environmentalists in the state.[5]
Environmental impact[edit]
In 2019, Williams Station released 2,565,641 tons of CO2, 654 tons of SO2, and 1,937 tons of NOX.[6]
