Associazione Sportiva Dilettantistica Gradese Calcio, or simply Gradese, is an Italian association football club located in Grado, Friuli-Venezia Giulia. It currently plays in Prima Categoria Friuli-Venezia Giulia.
History[edit]
The club U.S. Gradese Calcio (it will become A.S.D. Gradese Calcio in 2004 for fiscal reasons[1]) was formed in 1950 on the ashes of two local teams, linked to the competitive world between tour operators, restaurateurs and supporters. Until the 1990s and 2000s, under the presidency of Aldo Regolin, the club was able to gather sports crowds at important derbies such as Gradese–Palmanova, as well as in matches in Eccellenza. Subsequently, the commitment of the then vice president Angelo Marin, who still holds the reins of a club in which the players play for passion and only some reimbursement of expenses, gave new impetus to the environment.
More than a team of amateurs, ASD Gradese is a real group of friends who like the game of football.
Since 2010, the team has been a protagonist in Prima Categoria, reaching the play-offs several times, with a short slide in Seconda Categoria. The "new era" began in 2011 with the entrusting of the first team to the coach Marco Cragnolin, to whom the president gave carte blanche. Around the coach, and his relationship with the players in the squad, revolves the project that plans to reach the top floors of the ranking to land to Promozione.
In the U.S. Gradese youth sector, which has always been one of the most active in the region, grew up Mario David (born in Udine in 1934 and died in Monfalcone in 2005), who played in Serie A in the 50s and 60s for A.S. Livorno, L.R. Vicenza, A.S. Roma, A.C. Milan and U.C. Sampdoria and also played 3 games for Italy.[2]
