AGV München

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

The Akademische Gesangverein (AGV) München, founded in 1861, is a musical fraternity.[1]

Description[edit]

Despite its untypical name for a German fraternity, the Akademischer Gesangverein is a student fraternity where music and theatre is performed. The name "Akademischer Gesangverein" was very common among student choirs of the 19th century. Today, the AGV München is the last one that still bears this name. Together with the Akademische Liedertafel Berlin (today Akademisch-Musische Verbindung Berlin) it is a founding member of the Sondershäuser Verband Akademisch-Musikalischer Verbindungen, of which only musical associations are members. Besides the Studentische Musikvereinigung Blaue Sänger Göttingen. (also part of the Sondershäuser Verband), the AGV München is the only fraternity that maintains its own symphony orchestra.

The AGV is not politically or religiously oriented. As a musical student fraternity, the AGV runs two choirs, two symphonic orchestras, one symphonic wind orchestra, one jazz band, one big band, two theatre groups and one improtheatre. With about 800 members, the AGV München is the largest student fraternity in Germany.
