AMIS is a national domestic violence charity based in Edinburgh, Scotland[2]. The charity was founded in 2010 and become a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation from 2012[3]. AMIS works with male victims of domestic abuse with a national helpline, email support services and face-to-face casework[4].
The charity campaigns and advocates for equal rights surrounding gender politics, with a focus on providing equal standards of support for any person in an abusive relationship[5]. AMIS is a recognised support service charity by local authorities, Police Scotland[6] the Scottish Government[7].
AMIS (Scotland), the ManKind Initiative (England and Wales) and the Men's Advisory Project (Northern Ireland) form the leading male domestic abuse charities for the United Kingdom.

AMIS was founded in 2010 in Dunfermline as an unincorporated charity registered with OSCR[8]. In 2011, the charity moved to Edinburgh. In 2012, AMIS incorporated by registering with Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator[3].
From 2014 to 2018, AMIS and Rowan Alba operated the MDASS (Men's Domestic Abuse Support Service) with funding from The Big Lottery[9]. The MDASS was a face-to-face support service based in Edinburgh.
Structure[edit]
AMIS is a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Charity. The charity has eight trustees[10].
AMIS currently receives no government funding for their helpline or support services. The majority of funding comes from fundraising and charitable grants. In the financial year 2017-18, AMIS had an income of £147,177 and expenditure of £177,282[11]
