APPLiA

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

APPLiA.[1] is a Brussels-based trade association that provides a single, consensual voice for the home appliance industry in Europe.

APPLiA interacts on behalf of its members with international and EU institutions, non-governmental organisations, the international media, and other stakeholders.

From large appliances like refrigerators and ovens to small appliances as irons and vacuum cleaners and also air conditioners, electrical water heaters or local space heaters the association’s membership consists of 20 manufacturers and 25 National Associations from across 24 European countries.

The home appliance industry employs directly and indirectly almost 1.1 million citizens from all over Europe, while its annual turnover to the EU is EUR 47,6 million[2]

History[edit]

The association was founded in 1958 as CECED (European Committee of Domestic Equipment Manufacturers) in Paris and it was transferred to Brussels in 1997. CECED changed its name to APPLiA in 2018 during its 60th anniversary[3]. Elected in 2014[4], Reinhard Zinkann is the current president of APPLiA.

Key focus areas[edit]

APPLiA focuses on increasing product innovation while reducing the environmental impact of appliances. Its main fields of expertise are energy efficiency, safety, environmental sustainability, innovation, connectivity, standardisation and trade.

In 2017, APPLiA launched the initiative Circular Society[5], aiming at reducing waste and ensuring the full circularity of the economy. Its aim is to bring together different actors such as the industry, NGOs, private companies or individuals and show best practices fighting this societal challenge.
