    ARCHLine.XP is a CAD/BIM software that contains highly specific design tools for architects, building designers, interior designers and other design professionals.[1] The software was initially developed by Cadline Kft. in Budapest, Hungary, as a CAD software to handle building renovations.[2] The software allows users to create a 3D model of a building, create structurally accurate connections and layers, structure building components in 3D, create 3D objects, create interior renovations, create documentation, access 2D drafting elements and input and access building information from 3D models. The software is fully BIM capable and is IFC 2x3 certified, making it a suitable tool in handling IFC file exchanges that can be used between consultants.


    History

    The initial development of ARCHLine.XP took place during the 1990s, in Budapest, Hungary, during a surge of company startups aiming at creating better computer-based drawing methods. Budapest, a centre, is also home to many other CAD/BIM software companies such as Graphisoft and OrthoGraph. Founded in 1991 by four Hungarians, Cadline's goal was to develop an advanced 3D CAD software for both architects and interior designers.[2] Aiming at finding a specific market focus, in the first few years after its establishment, ARCHLine.XP started gaining strong traction as a tool for architects to document the reconstruction of old buildings in Italy.[2] Many customers found ARCHLine.XP's room concept innovative, which made the management of irregular walls and wall angles easy. One famous example includes the Teatro Massimo opera house in Palermo, Italy, which was created in ARCHLine.XP.

    Many decades on, ARCHLine.XP's CV2.0-Architecture Export and Import has been fully IFC 2x3 certified by buildingSMART and is fully integrated into ARCHLine.XP (2017).[2]

    ARCHLine.XP, in collaboration with Nicholas Sunderland, from NS Interiors, and Radilina Shanova, presented and exhibited their 'One Click Kitchen', alternative finishes tools, virtual rooms and 3D printing capabilities at the Decorex International exhibition in London. The industry event was in the interest of attracting more interior designers to their software, which features many useful interior design tools.[3]

    ARCHLine.XP 2016 - IFC 2X3 Certification

    On April 4, 2016, ARCHLine.XP became fully IFC 2X3 Export certified (CoordinationView 2.0 / Export).[4] The IFC interfaces to export IFC files became fully integrated into ARCHLine.XP 2016.[5] This certified IFC Export attracted a larger user base of architects and designers due to the ability to create, manage and exchange BIM models between various software programs.     On November 9, 2016, ARCHLine became fully IFC 2x3 Import certified (CoordinationView 2.0 Import).[4]

    Both the import and export features were featured as built-in standards in ARCHLine.XP 2017.[6]

    From May 4 - May 6, 2016, Nicholas Sunderland, from NS Interiors, presented award-winning example projects, which were designed in ARCHLine.XP.[7]

    ARCHLine.XP CAD/BIM Training For Interior Design at WIFI Vienna

    On June 20, 2016, ARCHLine.XP officially released a new interior design course in Vienna, with Mrs. Mag. Bayer, which introduces students to the core aspects of ARCHLine.XP in interior design applications. The course ran as part of WIFI Interior Design Certificate Program. On June 16, 2016, ARCHLine.XP conducted a successful presentation for students of the course at WIFI Wien by Cadline Ltd. distributor partner in Austria, IT-Concept Software GmbH.[8] The course demonstrated the capabilities of the software and how to fully model a kitchen, bathroom and living room fit-out, allowing students to become more confident in their ability to use CAD for interior design.[8]

    Decorex International 2016

    ARCHLine.XP is presented by Nicholas Sunderland, from NS Interiors, in various interior design applications. Nicholas presents the designs of his Chiswich apartments, where he talks about his unique design process involved with achieving "stylish and attractive interiors".[9] Decorex International is an "interior design show for professionals, celebrating the people taking interior design to the next level. It features international brands and designers, each presenting their newest collections of exquisite furniture, fabric, lighting, decorative craft, contemporary art and much more."[10]

    Release of OrthoGraph

    Cadline releases a brand-new software package aimed at optimising site mark-ups for designers (September 1, 2016).[11] The tool is used on iPhone or iPad and serves as an overall kit to measure floor plans during site visits.[11] The tool is also compatible with laser distance meters and mark-ups and measurements can be exported via Dropbox to ARCHLine.XP for an accurately measured floor plan of an existing site. The file can be opened directly in ARCHLine.XP without the need to import DWGs or redraw a building from scratch.[11]

    "OrthoGraph is a professional building survey software for iPhone or iPad, made for anyone who needs to map out and measure buildings. The program converts hand drawn sketches into digital walls, allowing the users to accurately measure and document the built environment. OrthoGraph aims at cutting down on the time spent on the initial site survey while eliminating the user errors by providing instant visual feedback. The end result is a 3D digital floorplan which can be exported into several file formats, including IFC; ARCHLine.XP natively reads.

    ARCHLine.XP is “3 in 1” CAD/BIM design software which incorporates the workflow of architecture, interior design and modelling furniture. ARCHLine.XP is able to seamlessly import the OrthoGraph survey files, so the room data gathered on the field can be used instantly as coordinated and computable building model. In addition to this ARCHLine.XP has a rich set of specific interior design tools such as furniture, blinds and curtains, lighting, tiling, moulding, etc. Designers can easily furnish rooms and render lifelike fabrics, textiles and wall finishes with excellent light effects in daytime and night scenes. Just in a few minutes.

    The mission of the software package is to speed up the otherwise manual and tedious site survey, and allow the user to use consistent and reliable interoperability across the mobile and desktop applications. With this milestone, the software package offers practical, real-world solutions for all interior designers.

    London Build 2016

    ARCHLine.XP showcases their software at the London Build Expo 2016, the UK's leading construction and design show. London Build presents "the latest news on projects, opportunities and developments in London and the UK's construction industry".[13]

    k+b design London 2017

    ARCHLine.XP and OrthoGraph is exhibited at k+b design London 2017. kbb London, now hosted as kbb Burmingham, is a yearly industry event hosted in the UK, which showcases the "largest gathering of the world's best kitchen, bedroom and bathroom brands, and the established industry gathering".[14]

    ARCHLine.XP 2017

    On 17 March, 2017, Cadline introduces new enhancements from ARCHLine.XP 2017 and aims at being more compatible with BIM and helping professionals in design, documentation and collaboration.[15] At this point, the software is fully IFC 2x3 buildingSMART certified and supports CV2.0-Architecture Import/Export, which is fully integrated into ARCHLine.XP 2017.[15]

    According to Cadline, additional enhancements at this stage include[15]:

    • Direct import of Revit® RFA and RVT files
    • BIM: Standard and certified IFC export and import.
    • ARCHLine.XP 2017 users can import and view the RVT, RFA file types
    • Import PDF geometry: Reduction of time spent on processing architectural file in PDF
    • Real-time rendering
    • Virtual Reality 360
    • Designing 3D shapes: A conceptual design environment
    • Excel file import: Users can use the Excel file import command to upload contents of Excel files to floor plans
    • New tiling method in 3D: Tiling tool is simplified allowing users to change tiling layouts and styles more quickly in fewer steps.
    • Mosaic tiling: Randomly generated tiling with four different materials or four different sized mosaic tiles.
    • LED light strips: LED light strips are used for decorative and hidden light representations
    • Improved Material settings
    • Printing layout developments: Auto-fill and auto placement of default stamp features added, as well as separated scale factors
    • 4K monitors: Compatibility for 4K monitors
    • Improved user interface

    BIMobject and Cadline Ltd. Cooperation Agreement

    In 2017, Cadline Ltd. and BIMobject® sign an agreement that would allow Cadline Ltd. to create a tool that directly imports BIM content from their database into ARCHLine.XP. As part of the agreement, the BIMobject® App is included to give ARCHLine.XP the ability to integrate BIM content into drawings and models via a direct import from BIMobject® Cloud. This additional feature ensures that BIM professionals can download BIM content from manufacturer brands and from ARCHLine.XP and is made available to users free of charge. Cadline Ltd. believes that this update will "enable industrialisation of the construction industry and also have a huge impact on design, product selection, constructability, waste, energy, cost, quality and logistics".[16] The direct link between ARCHLine.XP and BIMobject was demonstrated during a live webinar on 19 September, 2017, in collaboration with BIMobject Sweden.[17]

    ARCHLine.XP Webinars

    As part of Cadline's plan to educate new and existing users on their software, new 30 min educational webinars are introduced. In order to assist their clients, Cadline believes that these webinars will allow them to "go beyond our regular product demos, and really talk about the nuts and bolts of what it means to work in BIM".[18] These ARCHLine.XP webinars go through different ARCHLine.XP features such as working with external files, architecture start-to-finish projects, interior design start-to-finish projects, doors and windows, suspended ceilings, terrain modelling, stairs and railings, documentation, dimensions and annotations, construction detailing, solutions for advanced projects, etc.[19]

    ARCHLine.XP Speaks at BIM & Visual Camp 2017 Seoul

    ARCHLine.XP presents their software at BIM & Visual Camp 2017 to architects, designers and visual artists. The event is opened by keynote speaker and CADalog Korea CEO, Carpenter Yoon, who discusses how BIM is involved in improving the design of modern buildings and interiors. He also discusses new disruptive trends and technologies that come with real-time visualisation. Illés Papp, architect and Cadline Product Manager, talks about 2D drafting and 3D drawing methods, workflows, interiors and multi-storey buildings in a 1-hour opening demonstration.

    Cadline currently offers 3 different software solutions, each with a different focus:

    1. ARCHLine.XP Pro: a fully-functional 3D CAD/BIM solution which includes tools for architectural modelling, structural editing, interior design, documentation, printing, rendering, collaboration and terrain modelling.[20]
    2. ARCHLine.XP LT: an entry-level version of the program which sells at a lower price-point. ARCHLine.XP LT does not feature the same functionality as ARCHLine.XP Pro.[20]
    3. ARCHLine.XP Live: an animation software which allows users to create real-time renders, images and breakthroughs of 3D models.[21]
