"ASAP" is the second single released by South Korean girl group StayC. Co-written and produced by Black Eyed Pilseung, the song was released on April 8, 2021, as the lead single from the group's second single album Staydom.
Lyrics and composition[edit]
"ASAP" was noted to be considerably "low-key" compared to its predecessor. The instrumental hook of the song is laid-back, with its twinkly 8-bit-inspired ringtone melody. The song is trapped between a cutesy bubblegum pop production and a sensual summer jam.[1]
Music video[edit]
In the vibrant clip, the K-pop rookie girl group show off their sleek choreography on a comic-inspired set as they perform the summery synth-driven song. Rapper J kicks open the track with confident lines like “Time is running boy” and “You know I’m so dope“, before vocalists Seeun and Sumin jump in.
Commercial performance[edit]
"ASAP" became STAYC's first song to enter the top 100 of top South Korean streaming site, Melon. After 5 weeks of consecutive charting on the Gaon Digital Chart, South Korea's equivelant to the Billboard Hot 100, "ASAP" became their first top 15 hit. [2] Their previous charting effort, So Bad, reached the top 200 at number 159. [3] "ASAP" also reached the top 10 of Melon 24 Hits on June 2, 2021, making STAYC the only 4th Generation K-pop girl groups (along with ITZY and aespa) to reach the top 10. [4]
Live performance[edit]
STAYC performed "ASAP" live on many South Korean music shows, including The Show, Show! Music Core, Music Bank, Inkigayo, and Show Champion. They also performed a live band version of "ASAP" for the first time on the Mdromeda Youtube Channel.[5]
