A K Pasek is the pen name of a Polish author whose real name is unknown. She was born in Sosnowiec, Poland, and moved to Warsaw, where she graduated from SWPS private university with an MA in English Philology.[1]

While she is a little elusive, she openly states on her Facebook page, under the name Anka Pasek, that [she is an] "ESL Teacher/novelist (pen. A K Pasek). I use AI generated self images, but my writing is all my own!"[2].

She has a passion for English and the study of first language acquisition techniques in the ESL (English as a Second Language) environment. [3] Although Polish is her native language, she chooses to write in English.

To date (2025), through Austin Macauley, she has published two full-length novels; The Confession and The Hard Road Back, with a third The Journey Home in the works (reference to this appears at the end of The Hard Road Back). As yet, there is no release date for The Journey Home.

She has also published a novella; Elwira a Coming Out Story, only available on KDP as a self-published e-book, which features the background story of one of the other main protagonists of her main series and tells the story of how she struggled with coming out in terms of her sexuality.

On her author webspace, provided by Austin Macauley, Pasek states that she is fascinated by the psychology and powerplay within relationships and this is a major element in her writing[4].

Style

A K Pasek primarily uses a first person narrative style in which she utilises both a standard storytelling narrative style and an inner voice to convey the feelings and thoughts of her characters. The inner voice is shown as distinct in the prose by being in italics.

In both The Confession and The Hard Road Back she mainly utilises the character of Ania, her main protagonist, to tell the story with a secondary character, Dominika adding an afterword in a different voice at the end. This serves to widen and deepen her writing and enrich her characters.

She employs the same approach in Elwira a Coming Out Story, only this time she uses Elwira's voice.

This first person style seems very much to be her footprint in all of her writing.

It may just be a coincidence, but with her abbreviations being A K and her main character being called Ania that this is a deliberate and conscious attempt to make her work appear (auto)biographical which lends more legitimacy to her first person narrative style. This idea that she might actually be called Ania is also supported on the author's website that refers to her interchangeably as A K and Ania K.[5]

Themes

On her blog A K Pasek outlines a number of themes which she impresses on the reader and in how she presents them it is clear that in many cases they represent values that are close to her heart.

MeToo

A K Pasek explains that this is a primary theme within her novels and it naturally follows into her second theme

Consent

While the content of her novels is at times extreme, A K Pasek makes a big thing of ensuring that everything remains within the context of being consensual. She openly states that where there is no consent there is only abuse.

Empty Religiosity

This theme is more subtly woven in and while she argues that religion is often a good thing, following it for the sake of following it is pointless and oftentimes damaging.

LGBT+

A K Pasek's approach to LGBT+ (she refuses to use the Q appellation because she argues that the whole point of the "+" is to act as a catch all and it needs to stop somewhere) is very subtle in that it is not pushed, rather she is aiming for what she defines as normalisation of all genders and sexualities which fundamentally means seeing people as individuals complete with their strengths and flaws.

Self-Esteem

Through her main protagonist Ania, questions are raised about how she sees herself. Within The Confession she describes herself as outwardly beautiful, but inwardly contemptable. Much of what is written, particularly with her interactions with Dominika, are about building her sense of worth.

Self-Harming

Closely related to the theme of Self-Esteem, Ania at times during the events of the novel's hurts herself and seeks out humiliation because for her it represents her place in the world. When she is not on the receiving end of any kind of chastisement in line with BDSM she seeks it out herself. The most vivid examples of this come in the forest after her last encounter with Elwira and during the final cataclysmic encounter in the hotel towards the end of the Confession. While this final encounter involved her placing herself into the hands of others, A K Pasek describes it as self harming by proxy.

True BDSM

A K Pasek explores this theme with some depth and she outlines two main principles beyond consent that are vital to what she defines as true BDSM; namely hard limits, lines that can never be crossed, and soft limits governed by safeguarding (typically a safe word). She goes to great pains to stress that in a true BDSM relationship it is the submissive who has ultimate control.

Reception

A K Pasek's work has received good reviews on both Amazon and GoodReads.
