A Pool Without Water was released in Japan on February 20, 1982.[3] The film was screened at the 2011 L’Étrange Festival in Paris.[4]
Reception
Writing for ScreenAnarchy, Matthew Lee described A Pool Without Water as “Wakamatsu trying to punk you... the joke's at your expense, but it's still playful, cleverly put together and genuinely, darkly funny.”[5]
In his 2011 review for Electric Sheep, Nicolas Guichard called it “a strange, oneiric film, a poetic parable on the relationship to the other in a fossilised society.”[6]
Home media
A DVD edition of A Pool Without Water was released in France by the distributor Blaq Out in 2011 under the title Piscine sans eau. The release was issued as a Region 2 disc and is held in the collection of the Bibliothèques de la Ville de Paris.[7]
