A VHS Christmas Carol (later titled VHS Christmas Carol Live!) is a musical written by Clark Baxtresser. It is the thirteenth show produced by StarKid Productions, originally created as a visual album that was live-streamed on Looped in December 2020 and then staged live at The Bourbon Room in Los Angeles the following year. The show sets the story of Charles Dickens' novella A Christmas Carol in the 1980s. The original live-streamed production ran from December 11-13, 2020[1] and its 2021 live production had five in-person performances from December 9-11 and four live-streamed performances from December 17-19.[2]

Original live-streamed production[edit]
The original production was livestreamed on Loopedlive.com from December 11-13, 2020. The production was directed by Corey Lubowich and co-produced by Lubowich and Brian Holden. The production starred Dylan Saunders, Clark Baxtresser, Meredith Stepien, Jaime Lyn Beatty, James Tolbert, Jamie K. Burns, Britney Coleman, A.J. Holmes, Brian Rosenthal, Corey Dorris, Joey Richter, Lauren Lopez, Brian Holden, and Ali Gordon. In the live-stream, the actors all remained at home and were edited together for the final product.[3]
An original cast recording was released on December 14, 2020.[4]
Los Angeles production[edit]
A live staging of the musical was presented at The Bourbon Room in Los Angeles, California and was retitled VHS Christmas Carol Live!, presented as an immersive concert-style performance. In-person shows were performed from December 9-11, 2021 and live-streamed shows will be presented December 17-19. The production was, once again, directed and co-produced by Lubowich and co-produced by Holden and added a creative team of choreographer/asst. director James Tolbert, costume designer June Satio, lighting designer Sarah Petty, sound designer Ilana Elroi, music producer Tomek Miernowski, and stage manager Angela F. Kiessel. Beatty and Saunders also joined as associate producers. The cast remained the same except for Coleman, who was replaced by Janaya Mahealani Jones. Ali Gordon appeared as Turkey Boy via pre-taped footage. In addition, Curt Mega and Kim Whalen were cast as swings.
